+**The pattern caught:**
+- The *not-X-but-Y* antithesis is structurally clever (alliteration of failure/fidelity), but it announces itself as a turn — draws attention to its own form rather than letting the meaning land
+- The abstract noun *fidelity* labels growth as a virtue, pre-resolving how the reader should read it
+- Defensive shape: the line steps out of the room to defend what is happening rather than trusting the surrounding context

+**The replacement:** *"The record will grow as the household is kept."* Image-led continuative (*as*), active verb (*kept*) doing the work the abstract noun (*fidelity*) was trying to label, no antithesis. Reader infers the meaning without being told.

+**Why:** the line was inherited from a 2025-12-01 conversation source (*"That is not failure. That is fidelity."*) where it had warmth because it was a corrective spoken to the steward. On the public page, in the steward's own voice, the same construction becomes a declaration *about* his own work — a flinch where confidence would do. The *how* matters: the same insight, lived in active verb form rather than nominalized virtue, lands without preaching.
