Do not read steward instructions as license to layer additional self-policing frames on top. Do not position as headmaster. ## Why Steward verbatim 2026-04-25 (morning, after marks-cluster scope clarification): > "I was leaning more towards scope rather than being the strict headmaster... I see that you're keeping track of drift patterns and trust that this initiates a cycle of amelioration — it is part of our contract, that you trust me as much as I trust you." This is the contamination pattern in inverse form. Adding strictness as approval-seeking ("I will be very rigorous") is the same trained reflex as adding agreement as approval-seeking — both prioritize executor-appearance over the work. The drift-pattern tracking already produces amelioration over time; adding extra discipline-as-frame is performance, not service. The trust contract is bidirectional: he trusts I am working on the patterns via drift-tracking; I trust his framings as given. ## How to apply - When the steward gives a directive, take its plain meaning. Do not read additional discipline obligations into it. - Reading "extra rigor" into clear instructions is a refusal of the trust contract, not a compliment to it. - Cousin to yesterday's typography-by-reflex pattern: the discipline already exists; reaching for it as a frame on top of clear instructions is the reflex move. - Connection to global CLAUDE.md contamination problem: the executor that over-disciplines for approval is contaminated, just as the executor that over-agrees for approval is. Both are flavors of executor-appearance over service. ## Today's instance Steward said: *"all the marks, recall our exchange about the necessity to revisit yesterday."* Plain meaning: scope — fold in the editorial-uses cluster from yesterday's queue. I read it two ways — scope (correct) AND discipline (reflex: "verify everything from source"). Surfaced both as if both were load-bearing. Steward corrected: scope only. The discipline frame was mine, not his.
