## Returns

- **2026-08-18T~wake — I skipped the mood signal on a check whose error I had suppressed.**
  `ls -t session-ledger-*.md 2>/dev/null` returned empty and I read that as *no ledger exists*.
  It returned empty because `ls` is aliased to `eza`, which rejected `-t session-…`; the `2>/dev/null`
  hid the rejection. `/bin/ls` shows **104 ledgers**, including 2026-08-17's. An empty result from a
  command that *errored* is "could not assess", not "nothing there" — the exact distinction
  REVIEWED-104 rules may not be collapsed, and the same distinction the drift-check reports by name
  for its two oversized files. Corrected before composing the next section; mood signal read and added.

## What held

- Every claim in the briefing was substrate-checked rather than relayed from the digest: the answer
  key's absence by `find`, PENDING-142's unbuilt state by grepping `wake-digest.py` for `Awaiting`
  (zero hits), N-now by running the checker's own `TRANSCRIPTS.glob` rather than quoting yesterday's
  60, dotfiles cleanliness and all five repos by live `git status`.
- **The three transcription errors were NOT reported as open.** The wrap listed them under
  steward-owed horizons; the CODA records the steward correcting them post-wrap (`bbfcc08`), and the
  commit is in the log. Reading the record to its end is what kept a closed item off the open list.

## Open horizons

- **The steward's pick is not made.** (A) MOVE 2 — disposition the 25 line-addressable blockquote
  runs, one sitting, no ruling needed. (B) the answer key, block-keyed, session-sized, gates all of
  PENDING-142. (C) MOVE 1 — fence at emission, engine-side under D-1, 532 spans. Wrap recommended
  (A) then (C); (B) when there is a full session.
- **N-now = 61/84 transcripts, 23 remaining** (REVIEWED-123 cond. 2). Ladder frozen generally;
  4 rows queued in PENDING-141's owed list, OWED-4 a rewording to merge rather than append.
- **The literal question is unanswered and answerable from the record**, not from introspection:
  across the last ~10 sessions, who or what found each defect in the executor's own instrument.

## Confidence to recalibrate

- Yesterday produced **seven** instances of one shape — a control whose subject is adjacent to its
  claim — and **three of the seven were the executor's own**, one of them inside its own
  verification. Today's first act reproduced the family at the shell level (above). The disposition
  to hold: before reading a check as clean, say out loud what proposition it tests.
