- 2026-04-30 mid-morning — projected Obsidian vault as the bigger substrate to mine vs chamber-library; steward corrected ("The chamber library is much bigger that my obsidian vault"). Verified empirically: chamber-library 1.6 GB / 635 MB text vs Obsidian 245 MB / 53 MB text. Was conflating *drawers already mined* (Obsidian at 112k under old logic) with *substrate size to ingest*. Pattern: assumption-as-confidence without measurement.
- 2026-04-30 — initially proposed Phase 2 as "skip plugin install entirely, manual hook+PATH setup" but steward's drift concern reshaped the recommendation to canonical alignment migration. Proper Prime Directive answer was to migrate the chroma palace from `_Dev/mempalace/.local-data/palace` (shim location) to `~/.mempalace/palace` (canonical default), drop the run-mcp.sh shim, and use canonical `mempalace-mcp` binary. Migration completed end-to-end: 131,418 drawers preserved, MCP now reads canonical path, drift surface eliminated.
- 2026-04-30 — Claude Code session caches MCP config at start; `/mcp` reconnect reuses cache. After config edit + first reconnect, MCP spawned via cached old `run-mcp.sh` with old `MEMPALACE_PALACE_PATH` env override → MCP saw 0 drawers at empty old palace, created 188 KB fresh chroma.sqlite3 there (0 embeddings — caught and removed before damage). Mining hook also fired with cached config. Resolution: patched `run-mcp.sh` to drop env override (transitional measure for current session), then second `/mcp` reconnect succeeded. Lesson: editing claude.json doesn't take effect until session restart; for in-session migrations, patch the cached path target instead of expecting fresh config read.

## Open horizons

- **Pulling thread (inherited from 2026-04-29):** chamber-library entity registry cleanup — Option A (manual JSON edit) vs Option B (interactive `mempalace init` re-run in terminal) vs possible third path through just-pulled `.claude-plugin/`. Verify what `/init` slash command + `mempalace/SKILL.md` skill offer before defaulting to A or B.
- **Steward action pending:** MCP server restart (3.0.0 → 3.3.3 + chromadb 1.5.8 + per-project diary scoping). Until restarted, today's diary writes use OLD shared agent-keyed wing logic.
