Major find: Harrison-as-vocabulary-source. ARC's "humic layer" terminology derives from Dominion of the Dead ch 2 ("Humanity is not a species; it is a connection with the humus"). Surfaced when steward directed me to read the chapter. Vocabulary-genealogy now acknowledged in §1 preamble under prime-directive posture.

Sema distinction (architectural): Hommage = speech-act sema (Lincoln's address, Harrison's central example); Tombeau = form-enacted sema (Ravel/Mallarmé — the made thing as grave-marker). Harrison's ch 2 is doubly load-bearing (theoretical warrant for both types + vocabulary source).

Steward's directive to read Harrison's ch 2 before committing to humic-reference claims was received and honored. The claim about humic-terminology-origin was earned by reading, not asserted from memory. Anticipatory drift-correction: the sourcing-claims-without-reading pattern (2026-04-22 family) was avoided by the read-first move. Pattern to continue — specific-source-claims get verified before committal.

1. Apostrophe etymology as prayer-turn — Norris Ch 8: "'Apostrophe' means 'turn from' … An apostrophe is almost like a prayer, when a prayer comes from the impulse to praise." Direct kinship to Harrison / humic-layer / books-as-teachers. ARC is already apostrophic in Norris's rhetorical sense.
2. Aldus Manutius's comma (Latin spelling per steward) — AldineXXI has a grounded inheritance-claim in Norris Ch 5: "The comma was refined by Aldo Manuzio, a printer working in Venice, circa 1490." Steward prefers Latin "Manutius" in our voice; leave Norris's "Manuzio" intact in direct quotation.
3. Public genre / private genre distinction — named principle (Franklin on Dickinson) about differentiated editorial treatment; maps onto ARC's Essay/Hommage vs Fragment/Glimpse/Reverie.
4. "Do nothing" as first-class editorial option — three explicit instances (McPhee, Saunders, Dickinson scholarship).
5. The mark not-made as load-bearing — Norris Ch 9 on profanity withheld: "This one instance of the word's being withheld was more instructive than all the times the word was printed." Cousin to ARC's no-essay-fallback rule.
