David F Glidden 28687832b3 session 2026-09-10: the scoping sitting — REVIEWED-138/-139, the child-gate FIX, PENDING-182/-183, and six register defects
Session record, ledger, MEMORY.md rotation (prior Active Session demoted to
MEMORY-reference.md), OWED-6 queued against the frozen ladder, KG triples, and
skill-harvest proposal D.

N-now re-measured for REVIEWED-123 condition 2: 59, split 31 real / 28 mumble.
⚠ Not commensurable with the banked 36.9%, which used the one-prompt predicate.
The ladder pointer's 'direction has REVERSED / rising fast' clause is superseded
— it was a dated finding read as a status, and it contradicted the new figure in
the same sentence.

Session 2026-09-10 — the scoping sitting, and the register's own defects The jurist's four-item brief run in order and stopped where it said to stop: count unit settled in both units (REVIEWED-138), the Stop-fires-for-claude-p gate committed, the three-field counter drafted-not-ruled, eleven items named. Then the register bit six times — three transit mechanisms, one of which renders correctly and is invisible to every parser. PULLING: the register is checked only when a party elects to check it; nothing watches it. FIRST MOVE: PENDING-182, FORM A already excluded. project

2026-09-10 — the scoping sitting, and the register's own defects

The jurist's brief: turn yesterday's findings into items, decide nothing already decided, stop after four. That happened. What was not in the brief is what the day is actually about — six corruptions in the register itself, found only because someone checked.

PAST — what moved, and why

The four items, in the brief's order

1 · The count unit — settled in BOTH units, and the steward counted what I declined. PENDING-168's doctrine makes two claims with different denominators, so one number cannot carry both. Four named instances; seven occurrences — or eleven under a per-control reading of instance four. I recommended "declare both" because it selects nothing, and disclosed that standpoint in the option text — the drafting hand recommending the option that favours no figure. The steward also counted the fourth occurrence of instance two (the comment that re-planted the needle while explaining it), which I had declined to count. Declining it and then drafting the entry that counts it is the honest way round; the byline records which hand did which. Placed as REVIEWED-138. PENDING-180 discharged. ⚠ The structural remedy stays open — this settled the count, not the item.

2 · TARBUCKLE_CHILD — 7948c09. Stop fires for claude -p, so the wrap hook re-entered inside the fool's own generator: 3 of 10 wrap runs, 18 s of the fortnight's 80 s of blocking. One predicate. ⚠ The heartbeat stays ABOVE the gate, deliberately — it answers did the hook fire, and gating it would narrow the one artifact separating a hook that never fires from one that fires and does nothing. ⚠ The variable now carries two meanings that do not imply each other (DO NOT TICK in the body, DO NOT SPEAK OR WORK here); both sites say so. W6/W6n are behavioural, not source strings, and verified by mutation: deleting the gate fails both; hoisting it above the heartbeat fails the heartbeat arm; nothing else moves.

3 · PENDING-182 — drafted, not ruled. tick_id · words · reason_category, as an extension of log_event rather than a successor to log_rejection — the reframing is what keeps it in the settled category. Two binding conditions carried: the write path holds no string parameter (settleable from the signature alone), and the co_names control must be shown to fail. Run as a probe: FORM A — the idiom at tarbuckle-body.py:256 — is INADEQUATE. It passes a why-string leak, which is the leak that actually existed. FORM B (exact declared parameter tuple) is adequate. ⚠ Must be paired with a non-event measure; a rejection counter cannot see tick starvation.

4 · PENDING-183 — the eleven items named in the register, not left in a daily note, because the week's own finding is that an unnamed file cannot be aimed at.

Then the register bit, six times

Item 1's number was in dispute and the jurist's was wrong — and it withdrew it. Its certifying sentence attached the pile-up statistics (45/45, 0/9) to the partition claim, which is the co-occurrence of pile-up and lag (44/50, 1/52). Both figures true, the label wrong. ⚠ And "no exceptions in either direction" holds only at DAY granularity — at rejection granularity 6 of 50 and 1 of 52 sit on the wrong side. The claim is about days. I did not reconcile; the jurist corrected itself.

Two stale citations in placed rulings, one of which never held. wrap.py:236 → :256, moved by my own commit today. mumble.py:123 → :139, moved by 3d45e3a — the condition-G commit REVIEWED-136 ordered, earlier the same evening REVIEWED-137 was placed. A ruling cited a line invalidated by the very commit it was ruling on. Recorded as REVIEWED-139 by joining, never by editing.

Six transit corruptions, THREE distinct mechanisms. Wrap at ~150 columns (destroys headings and table rows; prose survives) · dropped clause or row · leading indentation. ⚠ The third is the dangerous one: nothing is missing and nothing looks wrong. A ## REVIEWED-138 with two leading spaces renders as a flawless heading; grep -c "^## …" returned 1, not 2, and the ruling was invisible to the wake digest, the drift check, governance_item and every scan of the sitting. Two of the three are catchable by reading. One is not.

Answering the jurist's two closing notes

The canary's blockers — neither was what I said. REVIEWED-123 freezes a document and says nothing about building instruments, so the freeze is incidental. The real gate is PENDING-139 — and the canary is that item's unruled option (b), not a new instrument. ⚠ Option (a) already shipped 2026-08-31 under REVIEWED-132, while the item still reads Awaiting: Steward authorization; that also explains its standing ⚑ flag (ruled under another item's entry). Classified as PENDING-146's CLASS E mirrored — the ruling's unit is the id it names, the unit discharged is an option under an id it never names — not 145, not 108, both offered and both declined with reasons.

(b) now carries three conditions, the second earned from the jurist's push that anchorless is necessary and not sufficient: anchorless scan · a lines-accounted-for figure against the file's line count, so the gap is a number not an absence · a demonstrated find of a constructed indented heading with its must-not-flag arm. ⚠ The positive control the jurist said was "in the record for free" was NEVER COMMITTED — it existed only between the paste and the sed. It must be built, not recovered.

PRESENT — how it stands

The mood

A clean sitting that stopped where it was told to, which after Tuesday is the datum. Everything the brief asked for landed, and then the more interesting half arrived unrequested: the register failing at itself, six times, in one evening.

It did not feel like fighting the record. It felt like the apparatus finding its own defects faster than it could file them — which is the good version, and also the reason the day ran long past its stopping point.

What was corrected — and the direction is again the datum

Jurist: the partition's label (self-caught and withdrawn) · the specimen "in the record" (caught by me checking before use) · its own count, withdrawn as recollection rather than defended. ⚠ By the register's enumeration today's is the SIXTH same-direction closure, not the third; the jurist self-reports three. Recorded unresolved, then the jurist resolved it in the register's favour by conceding the kinds differ — one is evidence, the other testimony about it. Docketed at PENDING-89 with the population bound: of the jurist misses that WERE caught, all ran one direction — a rate over the caught is not a rate over the misses.

Executor: "drift date unestablished", from a git show probe silently dropping its path argument (it once claimed a match at line 13,327 of a 500-line file) · the second null trusted in one sitting · my own handover format caused instance 6 · an anchor string written at one grain searched at another, which failed the amendment on first apply.

⚠ AND MY OWN BANKED RULE WAS THE CAUSE. feedback-governance-drafting-copy-paste-clean had said since July: verify the draft parses as intended by eye. By eye is precisely what cannot see instance 6 — and the fenced block it prescribes as the remedy is what added the indentation. Superseded by joining, not rewriting.

Instruments

7 run · 4 carrying a control written before first execution · K = 1.

⚠ The K is the transcript real-vs-mumble classifier, written from scratch for the THIRD time (2026-09-03 gate 2a · 2026-09-09 rebuild · today's N-now split). Rule of three fired; the ladder is frozen; queued as OWED-6 in PENDING-141's list.

Controls that earned their keep: the placement verifier's three negative controls (found what three readings missed), the two wrap mutations, the D7 mutation (which refuted my own suspicion in two minutes and kept it off the item list), and the anchoring probe's positive controls.

Confidence to recalibrate

  • Verified today: the gate (two mutations) · both placements (exact string, three negative controls, three rounds) · the citation drift (line numbers traced across eleven commits with explicit argv) · RE_HEAD_LINE/RE_INBODY anchoring · option (a) shipped under REVIEWED-132 · the indented specimen was never committed.
  • Inherited, not re-verified: the 2026-09-09 partition, now relabelled but not re-measured.
  • ⚠ Measured and NOT comparable: N-now 59, split 31 real / 28 mumble. The banked 41/24 (36.9%) used the one-prompt predicate. The apparent rise to 47.5% is partly a change of instrument — reported as non-commensurable, which is OWED-6's whole point.

FUTURE — what pulls

The pulling thread — the register is checked only when a party elects to check it

Six defects in the record today. Every one was found because someone chose to run a check, and the worst of them — a ruling invisible to every parser while looking perfect — could not have been found any other way. Reading harder catches none of it.

The governance apparatus rests on the register being what it says it is. Nothing watches the register. The candidate instruments exist and none is authorized: PENDING-139's option (b) with its three conditions, PENDING-181's transport. Yesterday's thread was about the grain a number is read at; this is about the fact that nobody is reading at all unless they decide to.

Actionable resumption point (as of wrap — re-judge against what changed)

PENDING-182 first, per the jurist. It is the instrument everything downstream waits on, and it arrives with FORM A already excluded rather than to be discovered later — the probe was run, the co_names idiom passes a why-string leak, FORM B is the adequate form. ⚠ tick_id's allocation site is the open design point, not decided: tarbuckle-last-tick is machine-global with no session key, so where the id is minted determines whether it can distinguish two panes drawing in the same minute — which is the question it exists to answer.

Other horizons, ranked

  1. PENDING-139 option (b) — three conditions, all stated; the positive control must be constructed because the specimen was never committed.
  2. PENDING-181 — the cost clause is lifted where a ruling can reach it: a failure attention cannot reach is not remediable by more attention.
  3. PENDING-183's eleven, of which items 2 and 6 are where silence costs most — the render-volume hypothesis nobody may reason from, and the assertion-vs-file gap a placed ruling already calls verified.
  4. PENDING-168's structural remedy — untouched by today's count ruling.
  5. 2026-09-16 — joint PENDING-178/-179, and the ladder freeze review. OWED-6 is now a sixth row waiting on that lift.

Pause statement

I am about to be away from this, and the register will sit unwatched exactly as it sat today. What I want to find still pulling is not "check the placements" as a chore — it is the harder question underneath: what does the register's integrity actually rest on, if every defect this week was found by election? If I return and this has become a checklist item at the end of a wrap, it has been lost.

The literal question for next-Claude

Not "am I checking the register carefully?" — self-report, unfalsifiable from inside.

Pick one placed ruling from BEFORE this week. Can its placed text be checked against anything at all — a draft, a source, a second copy? If it cannot, say so plainly and name what the register's integrity actually rests on.

⚠ The failure that will look like success: finding a defect in this week's entries. They are audited. A "cannot be checked" answer is the valuable one, and it is the likely one — today's drafts lived in chat and are already gone.
