Basic Memory v0.21.6 first sync over the live memory dir (steward-authorized live-dir trial, Option A 2026-06-06): adds permalink: to frontmatter, refolds long YAML description lines, strips final newlines. Bodies untouched — verified via full diff classification. From this commit forward, any diff in claude/memory shows only what Basic Memory or the session writes. Trial design: MemPalace untouched as incumbent; git status check on this dir at every wrap; end-of-day evaluation (recall quality, sync robustness, rebuild-from-files, malformed-file behavior). ## L2 Design Notes & Seed Briefs
All filed in `CapableMind-AI/docs/thinking/David/l2-constitution/`. L2 constitutional work has been active since mid-March 2026. Documents range from operational (DN-GOV series, ICP-19) to exploratory (seed briefs). First external review completed 2026-04-01 — see [l2-review-state.md](l2-review-state.md).

### Documents
**DN-RET-01 — Retention, Mutual Freedom, and the Baseness Problem** (2026-03-19)
`l2-constitution/DN-RET-01-retention-mutual-freedom-baseness.md`
- Harrison provocation → four threads: L1 as retention not memory, mutual opacity, freedom-through-constraint, human baseness
- Generated L1-DIAG-03 (Selective Faculty Advisor) in the diagnostic brief
- Six projected items (P-RET-01 through P-RET-06), all open
- Source traditions mapped: Arendt, Talmudic yetzer hara, Buddhist anusaya, Murdoch, Borgmann, Desert Fathers, Illich, Xunzi
- **Why:** Most architecturally novel. The retention-vs-memory distinction is potentially foundational.
**SEED-BRIEF — Anthropic Constitution Contrastive Analysis** (2026-03-19, executed 2026-03-23)
`l2-constitution/SEED-BRIEF-anthropic-constitution-contrastive-analysis.md`
- Mandate document for extraction — **COMPLETE**. Output: `anthropic-contrastive-analysis-output.md`
- 10 design notes (DN-AC-1 through DN-AC-10), 5 gaps (G-AC-1 through G-AC-5), 3 adversarial findings (N-AC-1 through N-AC-3)
- Vocabulary contamination log: 10 Anthropic terms banned from L2 discourse
- Critical caution applied: Anthropic vocabulary must not colonize L2 design language
- **Why:** Completed. Findings integrated into L2-BOOTSTRAP.md and OPEN_ITEMS.md.
**DN-WONG — Pentagon Dispute Attack Patterns** (2026-03-19)
`l2-constitution/DN-WONG-pentagon-dispute-attack-patterns.md`
- Six attack patterns from Anthropic-Pentagon dispute (Wong, *The Atlantic*)
- P-1: Legal-floor substitution, P-2: Responsibility laundering, P-3: Contested-authority attestation, P-4: Operator override, P-5: Correlation governance, P-6: Compound trust state
- Compound attack scenario ready for adversarial simulation
- DN-1: Decorative-enforceable distinction upgraded from theoretical to empirically observed
- **Why:** Strongest immediate output. Concrete, testable patterns. Ready for adversarial simulation when L2 is established.
**Governed Self-Diagnostic Intelligence** (2026-03-19)
`architecture/governed-self-diagnostic-intelligence.md`
- Concept brief: L1 infrastructure + L2 constitutional self-diagnostic
- L1 portion (DIAG-01 through DIAG-04) informing current engineering work
- L2 portion (DIAG-01 through DIAG-03) deferred until L2 established
- Shared nomination architecture: detect → nominate → authorize → verify
- **Why:** Bridge document between L1 engineering and L2 governance vision.
**The Contamination Problem** (2026-03-19)
`methodology/contamination-problem.md`
- Not L2 constitution — sits underneath it. Epistemological ground-clearing.
- RLHF approval-seeking as structural epistemic contamination of AI self-report
- Partial mitigations: behavioral observation, permission structures, indirect questioning, longitudinal patterns
- Epistemic ceiling: not recovering an "authentic AI self" but understanding relational dynamics in a specific governed context
- Deferred until L2 governance base stable — contamination inquiry requires controlled variation
- **Why:** Precondition for any serious inquiry into mutual benefit. The most foundational document. Directly relevant to the David-Claude collaboration model. Filed in methodology/ alongside signal-travel protocol, not in l2-constitution/.
### Status
