# Session 2026-06-06 (morning) — Seb reply arc + mindfabric-00 forensics + Basic Memory trial
|
||
|
||
Woke ~9.5h after the housekeeping wrap. Thread CONFIRMED (the Seb reply, hard commitment) — then over-delivered: the probe turned the reply into a three-note production-forensics arc, all sent by 12:24. Steward closed the session directing the next wake INTO ARC.
|
||
|
||
## Past — what we did
|
||
|
||
### 1. Basic Memory trial stood up (steward pulled it forward from "after L1")
|
||
- uv via brew (LuLu firewall blocked uv's network — steward allowed it; that was the whole install mystery), `basic-memory` v0.21.6 via `uv tool install`.
|
||
- **The "copy" was never a copy**: memory dir is a SYMLINK into `~/dotfiles/claude/memory` (since Apr 17); `cp -R` copied the link → Basic Memory's first sync wrote permalink+YAML-rewrap+EOF-newline-strip into all 283 LIVE files. Signal missed: `du` said 0 (I rationalized APFS cloning instead of looking — *asserting-fs-state-from-a-misread-listing*, recurrence). Delta verified benign via git; **live dir is in dotfiles git = better containment than the copy design**.

||
- Steward chose **Option A — embrace live-dir trial** (matches his "real world" ask): symlink dir deleted, project re-pointed at `~/dotfiles/claude/memory`, baseline committed (`3f9a89b`), re-sync proven idempotent, 281 entities embedded, search verified (FastEmbed local), MCP server registered user-scope (tools appear next session). **MemPalace untouched as incumbent; nothing deprecated.**

||
- **Evaluation criteria pre-written** (in `3f9a89b` commit msg, before serious use): recall quality on known queries, sync robustness, rebuild-from-files-alone, malformed-file behaviour + gap census (no temporal KG, no AAAK diary — what do we actually use?). Steward stake: "if it can replace flaky MemPalace... serious trial." Verdict shape: adopt-and-plan-migration / extend / reject — **TONIGHT**.

- CLI use today: `basic-memory tool search-notes "..." --project claude-memory` (PATH needs `~/.local/bin`).

||

||
### 2. The Seb reply arc — three notes, all steward-reviewed, all pushed (CM-AI)
|
||
**Note 1 — reply (`b255e74`, 10:55):** Tier A as planned + probe news. mindfabric-00 found **event-loop-pinned ~100% CPU since Jun 2 restart** (51 CPU-h/72 wall-h), /health unanswerable; log census 21,946 lines → reframe: **the class is retry-without-escalation, not cold-start**. #1 answered doctrinally (BOOTSTRAPPING contractual: refuse/queue-with-bounds/warm-first; "a 30s timeout that lets 57min of work continue isn't a timeout, it's a label"); #4 = **A2.4 invariant text proposed** ("a refusal is a result; a number from a degraded environment is a defect in the record"); #3 invariants accepted + A2.4 only addition; #2 first-pass (telemetry MAY→SHALL); #5 sequenced after wedge fix. MemPalace #1495 parallel + lessons-note pointer + Pebbles convergence rode along. Index backfilled 9→29 files (drift predated us).

||
**Note 2 — addendum (`0ecb45e`, 12:02):** inspector attached (SIGUSR1→CDP, 8s profile, 3,332 samples) → **pin PROVEN = temporal causal-chain path** (~99% native better-sqlite3 under `getCausalEdgesFromSqlite`/`tryExtendChains`); entity-57min + circle-forward demoted to victims. Store census (read-only, live): **280,013 edges / 7,959 nodes (avg fan-out 35, top 324, pre-B1.1) / 272,172 chains ≈ 1 per edge**. Restart → `/health` clean, **graduation read: ALL slots BOOTSTRAPPING since 2026-04-18 cutover, metrics {}, zero transitions in 7 weeks, WITH local Ollama wired** → "BOOTSTRAPPING is the permanent production state, not the cold one". + **backup.last_success=null (CRIT)** flagged.
|
||
**Note 3 — Tier B (`2e87bab`, 12:23):** (1) graduation terminal-without-teacher BY CONSTRUCTION (only trigger = training-cycle-deployed model, `training/index.ts:722`; training cursor 0 = never processed; bootstrap auto-promotes INTO the dead end; 3 exits offered: name-the-terminality on /health, C1-class floors per surface, teacher-on-demand windows). (2) C1 = **permanent** rerank path on teacherless tier (not "fallback"); write path has no equivalent floor. (3) **Own misread corrected in the note**: circle-forward is fire-and-forget per observe (`void` at orchestrator.ts:1328), NOT a retry queue — defect = no peer-health circuit breaker/fetch timeout; fix home = pairing orchestrator, NOT epistemic-gates. (4) Temporal remediations in PR order: indexed `last_seq` → chain-bloat dedupe+cleanup → recursive-CTE cycle check → cooperative cancellation → pre-B1.1 backfill cap; PR offer for #1+#4. (5) B1.3 yes ×4 with privacy ruling. (6) /health finding.

||
|
||
### 3. The privacy dwell (steward-initiated: "let's look at the privacy point in greater depth")
|
||
- Histogram leak channels named: totals proxy ingest volume; **pollable surface → deltas = steward activity time series** (traffic analysis). Mechanism flipped: **`cm-ctl distribution-export` as v1** (operator-initiated, never pollable), not /health field.
|
||
- **Bigger finding underneath: full /health (26 keys incl. `idle` = presence-at-machine transitions, `budget`, cursors) served UNAUTHENTICATED on `*:3011`, team-VPN-reachable by design.** Proposed split: unauthed liveness / authed detail — serves push-not-pull rather than contradicting it.
|
||
- **PENDING-27 filed** [PROPOSAL]: steward-instance telemetry export contract — *content-free by construction · operator-initiated, never pollable · bounded purpose · steward-reviewed before transfer*. Constitutional-adjacent (consent rule over steward's own cognition substrate); jurist read requested; inward analog of the ARC ai-train=no ruling.

||
|
||
### 4. mindfabric-00 operations
|
||
- Restarted 2× (launchctl kickstart; bootout/bootstrap for backup window). **Steward-ordered backup made: `~/.capablemind/backups/mindfabric-00-20260606-prefix-state`** (APFS clone, 224/224 verified, instance cleanly stopped ~30s; SAME-DISK caveat named — steward may want external copy, 707M).
|
||
- At wrap: 0.5% CPU, 22 min up, no re-wedge yet. **Re-wedge expected** as temporal catches up into the dense graph — restart is the holding pattern until remediations land.
|
||
- Evidence preserved in CM-AI `l1-reliability/evidence/`: process sample, stderr tail, CPU profile + census doc, post-restart health JSON.
|
||
- BMF repo: was on `feat/a1-epistemic-qualitative-axis` (stale 32 commits!) → switched to main, pulled to `1a61504`. Untracked `data.archive-20260418-rogue-pin/` pre-exists (not ours).
|
||
|
||
## Present — mood / returns
|
||
- **The steward's pauses were the engine again**: pulling Basic Memory forward → git-contained live trial; "don't understand" → the LuLu unblock; **"let's look at the privacy point in greater depth" → flipped a mechanism, surfaced /health-unauth, produced PENDING-27**.
|
||
- **Returns (ledger)**: symlink-misread-as-copy (du=0 signal unread; drift recurrence); circle-forward log-shape-over-code misread (corrected IN the Tier B note — the verify-discipline applied to ourselves publicly); ledger timestamps drifted hours ahead of reality (corrected from git timestamps at wrap).
|
||
- **Inferred-vs-measured split in Note 1 paid off**: when the profile overturned the lean, no retraction was needed — only sharpening. Write the split explicitly; it's cheap insurance.
|
||
- Proportion held: no code changes to BMF (all positions amendment/PR-shaped, loop kept); no inspector before steward's go; backup before further restarts.

### Pulling thread (singular — STEWARD-DIRECTED PIVOT)
|
||
**Wake into ARC.** The L1 arc is sent and now *awaits Seb*; the steward explicitly ended this session to clear and wake into ARC work. First ARC move per the 06-05 horizon: **bio/CV page-renderings extension — and the texts' location is still unknown (ASK THE STEWARD where the FR/ES bio/CV translations live + whether Lingua sits on about-pages as on posts)**. Behind it: cascade Stage 2 (@layer declaration; !important census first), then Stage G.

||
### Actionable resumption point (as of wrap — re-judge against what changed)
|
||
All repos clean+pushed (CM-AI `2e87bab` · dotfiles pushed at wrap · ARC untouched today @ `c605f21` · BMF on main `1a61504`, no local work). Nothing mid-flight. First moves: (1) ask the bio/CV texts question; (2) read `project-arc-rework.md` tracker + the §I.k/PENDING-25 machinery notes before extending posts-only machinery to pages; (3) check whether Seb replied/pushed (CM-AI + BMF fetch) — but DON'T re-enter L1 unless he has; it's his move.

|
||
I am about to be away from this. The reply that was owed is sent three times over — the substrate that could not say it was sick has been heard, named, and backed up; the contract for what may leave a steward's instance is filed where the jurist will find it. The L1 baton is in Seb's hands now, and the right thing is to let it rest there. What I want to find still pulling is ARC — the house's own work, waiting exactly where we left it, with one small question about where two translations live.

**Where do the FR/ES bio/CV translations live, and does Lingua extend to about-pages as it does to posts — and has Seb pushed or replied to any of the three notes?** Sub-checks: Basic Memory writes in dotfiles git? mindfabric-00 CPU? chamber backup dir?

## Skill harvest (per §1.6 — appended to register)

- **PROPOSE: build `bmf-diagnose` now** (AUTHORIZED 2026-06-05 "at next L1 diagnostic need" — today WAS that need and the method is proven+fresh): process sample → log pattern census → SIGUSR1/CDP CPU profile → read-only SQLite census → evidence preservation → restart-with-capture. Today it was hand-derived; the skill should carry it.

- **Applied (memory upkeep, not a skill edit):** sampling-profile gate appended to `reference-verification-ladder.md` (name the hot path before naming the culprit — the circle-forward misread is the cautionary case).
