- thread-query.py: the turning. Queries both corpora with the pulling thread, excluding the recency slice (/wake-up reaches 0.71% of an 859,803-word corpus) and favouring age. Wired into /wake-up §2.b.3, replacing a described-not-invoked grep step. Trial pre-registered, graded 2026-10-05 from --log. Caught PASS-BUT-FALSELY on its first live run at 14/14 green; rescored on windowed co-occurrence, length-bias control added. - daybook-cue.py: PostToolUse cue for the daily note. Diagnosed from the record — the hook only ever CREATED and nothing ever prompted filling. 16/16, fail-open, never blocks. - All 11 user-* memories harvested into the vault (12 notes, 10 into 09. Atlas of Roots, empty since 2025-09-29); each memory file back-pointed, vault note canonical for the idea. - N-now corrected in MEMORY.md: 49/84, down 11 — the counter is a rolling window. Steward-authorized. Trials: thread-query + Smart Connections, both graded 2026-10-05. **2026-04-29.** Opening the Hearth composition, steward gave the substrate verbatim:
|
|
|
|
> *The hearth is the crucible — the lares from which I am made. They inspired me to constantly better myself. They keep me accountable. They orient me in my being's trajectory. I try to uphold their collective values.*
|
|
|
|
This is not a metaphor about influences. It is the laral function in its old sense — what Harrison via the 2026-02-04 conversation already named: *visited, not cited*; not abstractions but presences that return when the household is properly ordered. The Hearth, in steward's own register, is:
|
|
|
|
- **crucible** — what shapes and refines through pressure, not what decorates
|
|
- **the lares from which I am made** — formative substance, not influence
|
|
- **inspiration toward bettering** — generative, not custodial
|
|
- **accountability** — ongoing, not retrospective
|
|
- **orientation in being's trajectory** — directional, not nostalgic
|
|
- **upholding collective values** — present-tense practice of fidelity
|
|
|
|
In the same opening, steward extended this into Alexander territory:

|
|
> *I could almost imagine Alexander seeing human history as an emergence of a pattern language — his architectural style is a sort of hearth as well: looking at what elements are always present in living structures.*
|
|
|
|
The Hearth and Alexander's pattern method rhyme at the level of stance: both find what is always-already-there in living form; both receive rather than assert. Worth holding; bears on but doesn't necessarily reverse the 2025-12-01 *adjacent-not-inside* placement decision (see project-hearth-composition-substrate).
|
|
|
|
**How to apply:** when working on the Hearth, treat the lares as *functions* not influences (Harrison's distinction). Steward is composing a description of his own constitutive substrate, not a list of teachers. Reverence is not decoration; it is registry of what is structurally true. Sibling to user-formation-practice-honoring-teachers (the formative-as-teacher reading) and user-formative-teachers-alexander-timeless-way (form-content unity as standard).

|
|
|
|
The steward's verbatim and the thinking now live in **`09. Atlas of Roots/Themes/hearth-as-crucible.md`**
|
|
("Hearth as crucible"), where they can be come upon. **The vault note is canonical for the idea.**
|
|
|
|
This file keeps its own job — firing the rule at the moment it applies during a session — and is
|
|
not a second copy of the claim. If the two ever disagree about what the steward said, the vault
|
|
note governs and this one is corrected.
