- thread-query.py: the turning. Queries both corpora with the pulling thread, excluding the recency slice (/wake-up reaches 0.71% of an 859,803-word corpus) and favouring age. Wired into /wake-up §2.b.3, replacing a described-not-invoked grep step. Trial pre-registered, graded 2026-10-05 from --log. Caught PASS-BUT-FALSELY on its first live run at 14/14 green; rescored on windowed co-occurrence, length-bias control added. - daybook-cue.py: PostToolUse cue for the daily note. Diagnosed from the record — the hook only ever CREATED and nothing ever prompted filling. 16/16, fail-open, never blocks. - All 11 user-* memories harvested into the vault (12 notes, 10 into 09. Atlas of Roots, empty since 2025-09-29); each memory file back-pointed, vault note canonical for the idea. - N-now corrected in MEMORY.md: 49/84, down 11 — the counter is a rolling window. Steward-authorized. Trials: thread-query + Smart Connections, both graded 2026-10-05. **2026-04-29.** During the Hic+Adsum composition for the ARC About-page, when I noted that bio.md's tagline reads *"Pilgrim"*, the steward replied:
|
|
|
|
> *I have long considered life to be a pilgrimage.*
|
|
|
|
Not decorative; constitutive. The *Pilgrim* tagline at `/bio/` is the public face of a long-held life-shape, not a clever epigraph.
|
|
|
|
**The architectural consequence noticed in the same exchange:** the threshold composition distributes pilgrim-register across three pages without naming it on any:
|
|
|
|
- **Hic** — the place names itself (*"This is Animal Rationis Capax"*)
|
|
- **Adsum** — the present location is implicitly *within a longer journey* (the *here* in commas: *"a violist, and, here, a writer"*)
|
|
- **Bio** — the journey-shape opens (*Pilgrim* as the bio's first word)
|
|
|
|
The Adsum link on *David Glidden* delivers the visitor from the threshold's *here* into the larger *pilgrim* register at /bio/. The architecture is honest: present location placed within a longer trajectory, both true at once.
|
|
|
|
**How to apply:** when composing for the steward — particularly anything biographical, threshold-shaped, or about the whole arc of his work — hold *life-as-pilgrimage* as substrate. *Pilgrim* is a register the steward inhabits, not a metaphor he reaches for. Things that fit:
|
|
- The *here* of present location (not stasis; a marked stop on a longer road)
|
|
- Latecomer-posture (compatible with Harrison's *"we are all latecomers"* / Hearth's *"honoured by their names"*)
|
|
- Way (the way of living, the practice across life)
|
|
- The non-arrival principle (Non-Convergence Principle in `~/CLAUDE.md`: *"the system should be inhabitable, dignified, and sufficient at any point along the way"*)
|
|
|
|
Sibling memories: `user-formation-out-of-place-as-authority.md` (the out-of-place register is the authority-register; pilgrim and out-of-place rhyme — both name the structural condition of being on a road rather than at home).
|
|
|
|

## HARVESTED TO THE VAULT — 2026-08-24
|
|
|
|
The steward's verbatim and the thinking now live in **`09. Atlas of Roots/Themes/life-as-pilgrimage.md`**
|
|
("Life as pilgrimage"), where they can be come upon. **The vault note is canonical for the idea.**
|
|
|
|
This file keeps its own job — firing the rule at the moment it applies during a session — and is
|
|
not a second copy of the claim. If the two ever disagree about what the steward said, the vault
|
|
note governs and this one is corrected.
