The ~/.claude/ directory was previously local-only — a machine wipe
would have lost the accumulated memory, custom skills, and settings.
This commit moves the durable parts into dotfiles with the same
symlink-to-home pattern used for CLAUDE.md, PENDING.md, REVIEWED.md,
and L2-BOOTSTRAP.md.
Preserved (symlinked from ~/.claude/* into here):
skills/audit/ — thinking-folder drift scanner
skills/symmetria/ — practice-of-return discipline
skills/vault-update-people/ — Obsidian People-file maintainer
skills/wake-up/ — session restoration
skills/wrap-up/ — session state capture
memory/ — 55+ memory files (MEMORY.md, sessions,
ledgers, project state, feedback, etc.)
settings/settings.json — user preferences (hooks, flags, no secrets)
Deliberately NOT backed up:
settings.local.json — contains operational secrets (HF_TOKEN,
SSH password in expect scripts); by naming
convention, *.local.* is not synced.
Needs separate review and probable rotation.
sessions/, history.jsonl, caches, telemetry — ephemeral
plugins/, marketplace skills and agents — reinstallable
The working copies at ~/.claude/skills/* and
~/.claude/projects/-Users-davidglidden/memory are symlinks into this
directory, so every write flows here automatically. install.sh
recreates the symlinks on a fresh machine.
FOLLOW-ON (flagged, not in this commit):
settings.local.json contains a HuggingFace token and an SSH password
as plaintext strings inside allowed Bash command patterns. These
should be rotated and moved to secure storage (keychain / pass /
env file outside the settings file).

**External Auditor anonymization** — replaced remaining name references in governance docs (three-consequences.md, ICP-19, governed-self-diagnostic-intelligence.md). Context Note line 99 preserved as historical record per steward. Committed 0407339, pushed to CapableMind-ai/capableMind_docs. Updated both GitHub remote URLs from skemantix to CapableMind-ai.

**External Auditor's review received** — key challenges:
|
|
- CD-03 "living honestly" may be permission structure for status quo
|
|
- "Absorption Trap" — pre-naming failure modes creates epistemic immune system
|
|
- "Aesthetic of Rigor" — difficulty is not calibration (unnamed failure mode)
|
|
- Source selection biased toward sincere practitioner, missing tired/defensive/dumb-reasons observer
|
|
- Proposes "Veto Power" outside the vocabulary
|
|
|
|
**Dialogue trial preparation** — filed executor brief + override-recording instructions in l2-constitution/. Readiness assessment: invariants settled but not computationally operative; enforcement vocabulary defined but inert; override-recording proposed but not implemented. All deferred — steward prioritizing L1 work with Seb.

|
|
**Memory palace study (DN-RET-02)** — complete source study across Yates, Carruthers x2. Six findings:
|
|
1. Memory is composition not storage — reframes recall quality
|
|
2. Revisitation is compositional — confirms PENDING-17 retroactive re-evaluation
|
|
3. Affect is locational mechanism (intentio) — reframes Q-2: not new computation but signal already computed and discarded
|
|
4. Primary failure is disorder not forgetting — sharpens I-CF toward distinctness criterion
|
|
5. Multi-palace — tradition silent, dead end
|
|
6. Random access claimed but contested
|
|
|
|

### What we decided — and why
|
|
|
|
1. Context Note preserved — frames the turtles inquiry. Anonymization covers governance role, not historical record.
|
|
2. Dialogue trial deferred — L1 stabilization is priority. Instructions filed for when ready.
|
|
3. DN-RET-02 is inquiry not redesign — "trying to solve the problems, not create new ones."
|
|
4. Reviewer package superseded — External Auditor worked from it, assessment received.
|
|
|
