Basic Memory v0.21.6 first sync over the live memory dir (steward-authorized live-dir trial, Option A 2026-06-06): adds permalink: to frontmatter, refolds long YAML description lines, strips final newlines. Bodies untouched — verified via full diff classification. From this commit forward, any diff in claude/memory shows only what Basic Memory or the session writes. Trial design: MemPalace untouched as incumbent; git status check on this dir at every wrap; end-of-day evaluation (recall quality, sync robustness, rebuild-from-files, malformed-file behavior). ## Session 2026-04-07 (evening)
**What we did:**
- [x] Checked BetterMemories.io issue #120 (Phase 2 replay stuck) — no response from Seb yet, no comments
- [x] Read all 13 Observer Problem extraction notes into working memory
- [x] Read CD-01, CD-02, CD-03, Context Note, Seed Brief, REVIEWED-OP-01
- [x] Initial synthesis approach (organize by abstract failure modes A/B/C) challenged by Thistleweld — "synthesis without the actual failure modes, cart horse backwards"
- [x] Pivoted to identifying five actual architectural fault lines where observer failure concentrates
- [x] Jurist (Claude.app) provided executor briefing note (OP-BN-01) resolving the impasse: three failure modes remain the organizing structure, five fault lines are the architectural instantiations
- [x] Wrote OP-02.md — cross-strand synthesis (~3,500 words)
- [x] Steward authorized OP-02 with one amendment: Question 5 replaced
- [x] Applied all amendments to OP-02.md (status, authorization, Question 5)
- [x] Updated PENDING.md: OP-02 CLOSED, two new PENDING items (ICP-19 remit expansion, Fault Line 1 response)
- [x] Updated observer-problem-state.md memory
**Three cross-strand findings produced:**
1. Competence-vulnerability paradox (Visuddhimagga + Tetlock + Dunning-Kruger + Bourdieu)
2. Failure Mode B more fundamental than A (Cavell's acknowledgment gap)
3. Mechanism/disposition gap held open (per CD-03)
**Five architectural fault lines named:**
1. PENDING/REVIEWED pipeline — no check on the checker
2. Invariant registry — may be Peirce's fourth barrier
3. Inquiry examines steward with steward's own tools
4. CD-03 — beautiful language or actual correctability?
5. Three-party epistemic diversity — unproven between reviews
**Observer Problem inquiry state:**
```
OP-SB-01 Seed Brief AUTHORIZED
OP-CN-01 Context Note FILED
OP-BN-01 Executor Briefing Note FILED
OP-EX-T* Thirteen Extractions COMPLETE
OP-01 REVIEWED COMPLETE
OP-02 Cross-Strand Synthesis AUTHORIZED
OP-03 Mechanism Design NOT YET OPENED
```
**Next actions (from this session):**
1. Steward conversation with the External Auditor — ICP-19 remit expansion (PENDING, blocking OP-03)
2. Steward decision on Fault Line 1 response — address pipeline gap now or await the External Auditor?
3. OP-03 mechanism design — blocked on the External Auditor conversation
**Thistleweld contribution:** Redirected the synthesis from abstract theory to actual architecture. "One person, three documents, infinite rationality" — identified the authorization bottleneck as the real fault. "Zero delegation protocols yet" — pointed toward the structural gap the synthesis should surface.

- EDITED: `~/PENDING.md` (OP-02 closed, two new items)
